چکیده

The Constraint Satisfaction Problem (CSP) is one of the areas of artiicial intelligence where a signiicant amount of problem classiication and complexity analysis has co-occurred. For a large class of scheduling problems, described in a CSP notation, we propose a hypergraph as an underlying structure. We show that using causal theories, based on the nature of constraints, can lead to a signiicant eecient improvement in solving this class of scheduling problems. The complexity of the new strategy is analyzed as well.

Train Scheduling Problem with Consideration of Praying Constraint as an Application of Job Shop Scheduling Problem

The present paper extends the idea of job shop scheduling problem with resting constraints to the train scheduling problem with the Muslim praying considerations. For this purpose, after proposing the new mathematical model, a heuristic algorithm based on the Electromagnetism-Like algorithm (EM) which is well adjusted to scheduling problems is employed to solve the large-size practical cases. T...

RealPlan: Decoupling Causal and Resource Reasoning in Planning

Recent work has demonstrated that treating resource reasoning separately from causal reasoning can lead to improved planning performance and rational resource management where increase in resources does not degrade planning performance. However, the resources were scheduled procedurally and limited to cases that could be solved backtrackfree. Terming the decoupled framework as RealPlan, in this...

Combining Local Search and Constraint Propagation to Find a Minimal Change Solution for a Dynamic CSP

Many hard practical problems such as Time Tabling and Scheduling can be formulated as Constraint Satisfaction Problems. For these CSPs, powerful problem-solving methods are available. However, in practice, the problem definition may change over time. Each separate change may invoke a new CSP formulation. The resulting sequence of CSPs is denoted as a Dynamic CSP. A valid solution of one CSP in ...

A Mathematical Model and Grouping Imperialist Competitive Algorithm for Integrated Quay Crane and Yard Truck Scheduling Problem with Non-crossing Constraint

In this research, an integrated approach is presented to simultaneously solve quay crane scheduling and yard truck scheduling problems. A mathematical model was proposed considering the main real-world assumptions such as quay crane non-crossing, precedence constraints and variable berthing times for vessels with the aim of minimizing vessels completion time. Based on the numerical results, thi...

Why is Scheduling Difficult? A CSP Perspective

Interest in Constraint Satisfaction Problems (CSP) continues to grow, fueled by both their uniform problem representation, i.e., constraint graph, and conceptually clear problem solver, i.e., heuristically guided variable and value ordering. With the advent of interval constraints, e.g, temporal and spatial, and their associated consistency techniques, and the availability of Constraint Languag...
